[edit] What ERR5RS Stands For
ERR5RS is expected to become an emergency revision of the R5RS that extends the relevance of the R5RS by expanding the reach of the R5RS.
While there are many phrases for which ERR5RS might stand, and it's fun to think up new ones, ERR5RS is (at present) the real name of this project. It embeds a reference to the R5RS, but is different enough to avoid visual confusion with R5RS or R6RS. It differs from the word "errors" by a single character, which makes it easy to spell while providing a whimsical reminder of its origins and a serious warning against the dangers of revising a document such as the R5RS.
- Note on literary style: ERR5RS is a proper name and does not require a definite article. Since ERR5RS does not yet exist (we are still in the process of deciding exactly what it will name), preceding it with the definite article could be considered misleading as well as pretentious.
- Note on pronunciation: There is no official pronunciation. (Will Clinger pronounces ERR5RS as something like "ur-fivers", but he doesn't think the word "err" rhymes with "air".)

If you called the project "Special Emergency Revision ..." then the acronym SERR5RS could be read as "survivors." - R. Cavalaro
- I rather like this, for it is my explicit goal that "Scheme As We Know It" survive this period of turmoil. But ... that name will have to wait the test of history; not too long (a few years at most, I would expect), but not yet. Hga 23:58, 15 September 2007 (PDT)
- Kumoyuki 02:16, 3 September 2007 (PDT) - It has to be said: 'UR-5RS' is what probably most of us want - the hypothetical reductionist core that lets the language expand to take over the universal programming mindshare. Maybe I should add it to the Name page :)
- Given that we need a name for our "hypothetical reductionist core", UR-something would be very good choice, although it would seem there is plenty of support for R4RS as the base. Hga 04:16, 3 September 2007 (PDT)
