ERR5RS:Polling Place
From SchemePunks
This page is intended for recording the positions of the ERR5RS polity on definite propositions and questions. Polls with decisive results will be recorded in ERR5RS:Propositions Adopted or ERR5RS:Propositions Rejected. Other polls that do not result in decisions will be recorded in ERR5RS:Poll Retirement Home. Withdrawn questions, for the sake of the archivists among us, will be retired to ERR5RS:Withdrawn Polls.
For convenience and reference, a template for a proposition is offered at the top of this page, with the ERR5RS polity as currently constituted. This ensures that a record of indifference is recorded as well as positive, negative, or other reaction.
Proposition/Question:
- André van Tonder - ???
- Chris Hanson - ???
- David Rush - ???
- Harold Ancell - ???
- Jonathan Rees - ???
- Nils M Holm - ???
- Onnie Lynn Winebarger - ???
- William D Clinger - ???
This page will be organized into sections. Each poll will be one subsection of the appropriate major section, the statement of the issue at the top of the section, and votes recorded at one indent below that. The votes would be appropriate to the nature of the question (e.g. yea/nay/mu) preceded by the voter's name, possibly followed by explanation or pointer to an explanation, depending on the length. Only votes from logged in members of the polity shall be counted. The exact membership of the polity has not been fixed, the template above is simply based on the announcement to comp.lang.scheme
Comments on the questions themselves (e.g. that a question is ill-posed) and related discussion will take place on the talk page. The poser of the question may withdraw it prior to its retirement.
Harold Ancell has volunteered to serve as the recorder.

[edit] Poll Identifiers
Proposition: The recorder is responsible for devising a naming scheme for the propositions and assigning a unique identifier to each poll. An identifier assigned to a withdrawn poll will not be reused.
- André van Tonder - ???
- Chris Hanson - ???
- David Rush - ???
- Harold Ancell - Yes, having now realized that I am the self-appointed recorder ^_^.
- Jonathan Rees - why not
- Nils M Holm - ???
- Onnie Lynn Winebarger - Yes. I suggest a scheme such as Process.1 for this proposition, and so on. It would be nice if the assigned identifier could be used as a link on the wiki to the poll, wherever it ends up.
- William D Clinger - ???
[edit] Reaching Consensus
Question: What percentage of the polity constitutes consensus? Any percentage less than 100 shall be construed as meaning a single dissenter is insufficient to prevent consensus.
- André van Tonder - ???
- Chris Hanson - ???
- David Rush - Since he started this one: As many as it take to convince Will :)
- Harold Ancell - ???
- Jonathan Rees - "consensus" should not have a technical meaning; unlike e.g. "quorum" we don't get to say what it means. Look it up in your favorite dictionaries. Qualify the term somehow if you want a technical term.
- Nils M Holm - ???
- Onnie Lynn Winebarger - I am open to suggestion.
- William D Clinger - ???
[edit] Polity Membership
Question: What qualifies someone to be in the ERR5RS polity, particular new members?
- André van Tonder - ???
- Chris Hanson - ???
- David Rush - ???
- Harold Ancell - Making an account and using it for votes, approval (unanimous???) of the polity, some text to show one's interest and willingness to do a little work (work on the wiki's ERR5RS text, existing essay in the R6RS process, new essay/short statement, c.l.s posting, etc., ideally residing on or linked to in home page on wiki, etc.) Activity (including voting) in a recent (R4RS or later) Scheme standard lowers the bar.
- Jonathan Rees - I'm not going to do any work, so I hope that's not a prerequisite (of course if I don't belong here I'll respect that). I would say respect for process, sympathy towards the effort(s), willingness to compromise. By-invitation-only clubs are pretty effective, FWIW.
- Nils M Holm - ???
- Onnie Lynn Winebarger - I don't have a strong opinion. Maybe a 150-word essay on the importance of ERR5RS and the approval of the existing polity would work. Given the outcome of R6RS, some level of seriousness should be indicated.
- William D Clinger - ???
[edit] Meta-questions/Objectives
[edit] Minimal R5RS modification
Proposition: The ERR5RS shall modify the extant R5RS in a minimal fashion if at all.
- André van Tonder - ???
- Chris Hanson - ???
- David Rush - ???
- Harold Ancell - ???
- Jonathan Rees - ???
- Nils M Holm - ???
- Onnie Lynn Winebarger - Agreed.
- William D Clinger - ???
